    Wheel Bearing/Hub –

A wheel bearing is set of steel balls enclosed by a metal ring. It is positioned on a metal axle shaft within the hub. The wheel hub is the mounting assembly at the centre of each wheel. It holds the bolts that attach the tire to the wheel, therefore making it an incredibly important part. The smooth running of your car requires the wheel hubs to be in good condition, since these are the main support for the wheels. However, if they are dented, you might notice a grinding noise as you turn corners, or vibration and/or a lack of steering control, as well as sounds such as snapping, clicking or popping. Abnormal movements can also be an indictator that trouble is afoot. Wheel hubs can also be damaged by curbs or potholes. The good news is that you can easily improve your vehicle by replacing both the wheel bearing/hub.

A wheel bearing/hub can both be subject to wear and tear. They can rust and the grease surrounding them can be affected by water, which can result in alignment or steering problems.

Hubs themselves, however, rarely have issues because they are simple blocks of steel. The most common reason to replace a wheel hub is often because the bearing that is attached to it has failed. Wheel bearings can fail because of age, dirt and water contamination, or improper installation. Most hubs that are driven by axles require a very specific torque when installing. If that torque is too tight or too loose, then the life of the wheel bearing can become shortened.
